Dr. Mimi Zhang is a distinguished horn player and educator, formerly serving as Associate Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. She also held the position of Principal Horn with the Symphony Orchestra of the Central Conservatory from 2017 to 2025.
A graduate of the prestigious Middle School Affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music, Dr. Zhang began her musical journey on the piano at the age of three before transitioning to the horn. She received full scholarships throughout her entire musical education in the United States, earning degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, the Yale School of Music, and Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts, where she completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in Horn Performance in 2016.
From 2012 to 2017, Dr. Zhang performed with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra and the American Ballet Theatre, while also serving as a Teaching Artist at the Yale School of Music. A trailblazer in performance, Dr. Zhang made history as the first brass player to win the Spotlight Competition in the United States, which led to a solo performance at the Los Angeles Music Center and an interview published in the Los Angeles Times.
Dr. Zhang has also recorded albums with renowned musicians as a fellow at the Aspen and Norfolk Music Festivals. Since 2020, she has been a Conn & Selmer Artist, representing the brand under the Steinway Musical Instruments umbrella.

A dedicated educator, Dr. Zhang has given master classes, seminars, and performances at prestigious institutions, including Yale School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts, Boston University College of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, Xiamen University, and the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, with additional invitations in Qingdao, Fuzhou, Tianjin, Kunming, Nanchang, and Xinjiang. She has also served as a judge at major international competitions, including the Melbourne International Music Festival competition, Shenzhen International Music Festival competition, and the Jinbao International Music Festival competition, among others.
Dr. Zhang’s students have been awarded full and partial scholarships to leading conservatories and universities worldwide, including: Manhattan School of Music, Mannes School of Music, Boston University College of Fine Arts, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Stony Brook University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Music, University of Minnesota, University of Washington, The Ohio State University, Universität der Künste Berlin, Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and many others.
